Riding Motorcycles In the Picos Mountains, Spain

Add comment September 28th, 2015

It’s another Spyder Club trip first and what a corker!  The Picos Mountains, (Picos de Europa) in northern Spain is a very beautiful area with breathtaking scenery, fantastic little towns to visit and most importantly, roads that may well have been built with us bikers in mind!

With four days of riding to muster from the region, including the run in from and to Bilbao airport, the task wasn’t the hardest! Most regions of Sunny Spain provide the motorcyclist looking for challenging riding with exactly that. Many of the roads are perfectly surfaced, with mile after beautiful mile of bend to bend fun.

The Spyder Club routes took in the fantastic N-621 and N-625, and on two of the best bikes you could ride these epic roads on, the BMW s1000 XR and the new Ducati Multistrada. It’s a test many of the bike magazines are doing and our Spyder Club guests in the Picos got to do it too!

And what was the verdict on the bikes?  Well it’s all down to personal preference, the V-Twinned Ducati is so smooth it’s incredible and with huge amounts of torque.  The BMW has one of the best gearboxes and an inline four that begs to be utilised! In terms of handling, really, two bikes this capable, on the road, they are both phenomenal motorcycles with talents that way exceed anyone riding on the open road!

Again, it is all down to personal preference as both Ducati and BMW have created incredibly efficient mile munchers, whether fast and sweeping or tight and twisty, they are both an absolute pleasure!

If you choose to ride a Spyder Club bike having joined us and flown in, have spent a few days riding through France or a 24 hour ferry journey to get to the Picos Mountains, they are thoroughly worth riding. September was a great time to go too, the weather was perfect for riding, early twenties meant we enjoyed the bikes rather than melted on them! And in the evening, in the lovely town of Potes, there was plenty to do, lots of hotels and a vast amount of restaurants.

Start planning your trip to the Picos now; if you wish to do it with minimum hassle and enjoy not only the fantastic roads but a different bike everyday, then speak to us about our 2017 Spyder Club Picos trip, we’ll definitely be heading back!

Bradley Smith and Scott Redding on the Podium

The Misano MotoGP round during the weekend was a crazy race that saw Valentino Rossi make a massive mistake and potentially lose his championship lead.  However a Lorenzo crash righted his error and whilst there was no Rossi win to celebrate, the end result was just as good, with Bradley Smith and Scott Redding both on the podium, a fantastic result for the Brits!

Spyder Club Membership Changes and September Joining Incentive

We finally arrived properly at Silverstone Race Circuit!  Since leaving Donington Park in 2010 we have been virtual residents of Silverstone and run Spyder Club from a farm, meaning we lost the rent payable to Donington Park and were able to swallow the delivery costs and provide a free service to members.

Now with drivers and Silverstone being paid, the Spyder Club member delivery service needs to cover its costs and therefore we will, from the 1st October be offering two membership options.

Members will now be able to pick-up and drop off from Silverstone, leaving their bike or car with us for the duration of their booking and enjoy reduced fees for their membership.  Alternatively members can still enjoy the convenience of delivery which now includes an additional fee in the membership cost.

However, if you join Spyder Club by the 30th September 2015, you will retain the current rate of membership and free delivery for the next 12 months.  Plus you can chose to pay by direct debit each month rather than a one off, upfront payment!

Currently membership starts at £1,200.  From the 1st October 2015, membership will start at £1,100 for those wishing to pick-up and drop off at Silverstone and include an additional pick-up/drop off mileage allowance, and £1,350 for members wanting the convenience of delivery within the Spyder Club Delivery Zone, an additional fee is payable if outside of the zone.

For further information about the changes being made to the membership fees at the end of September, please contact Lizzi or Mark at Spyder Club by email or telephone, we will be very happy to help.

Silverstone MotoGP Triumph!

What a weekend at Silverstone for the British MotoGP round. The GOAT proved just that as his legendary talent kept him upright and on the pace all the way to the finish line, a worthy winner during a very wet race!

And whilst Cal Crutchlow was unlucky, being wiped out only a few laps in, it was fantastic to see Scott Redding get a good result at last and Bradley Smith keep his brilliant year heading in the right direction even if he did fall a place in the overall standings.

Moto 2 wasn’t quite the success us fans wanted as Sam Lowes did the sensible thing and made sure he finished rather than trying to keep up with the guys who had a good rain setup.  A real shame but a very good race nonetheless.

But Moto 3 proved perfect, with Danny Kent once again showing he really is a class act!  Mr Consistent was just that, a brilliant ride, focused in very tricky conditions, how do they do it?!
