A Motorcycle Trip to Norway!

Add comment May 21st, 2014

With Norway offering scenery like this, it’s easy to see why the country attracts so many tourists who want to see its splendour! For the motorcycle rider, the roads weaving through this beautiful country add to this amazing experience, for Spyder Club guests joining us on our fast approaching Norwegian trip, it’s even more appealing!!

Joining us in Norway from the 4th June will be the:

BMW R nineT, a superb motorcycle offering something very different, very retro and a beautiful ride

Ducati Monster 1200, hilarious, loads of torque and great through the corners, it’s a current favourite

Ducati Diavel Strada, OK, it’s not a cruiser but it looks a little like one, so how does it work as well as it does, so much fun

KTM 1190 Adventure, a bike that does everything, KTM have produced something very special indeed

Ducati Hyperstrada, the 800cc engine just loves to be revved and the confidence provided through corners is staggering, you just need to bring your smile

KTM SMT, the 990 KTM engine is no longer being produced, what a shame as it’s a peach, one of my all time favourite bikes

Ducati 899 Panigale, what’s not to like, beautiful, exceptional in all areas, a world class motorcycle

It’ll be our first time to Norway, a trip we have been looking forward to for a long time. Going through the routes again recently we reminded ourselves what awaits us, only two weeks to go!!

There is one more place remaining on the Norwegian Fjords trip, would you like to join us, it means we need another motorcycle to add to the fleet too!! Give us a call on 0845 2000 868 or email us.

The Ducati Monster 1200, Brilliant!

Add comment May 1st, 2014

Having ridden the Ducati Monster 1200 briefly before writing my last post on it, I have now ridden it over 600 miles last weekend during our Welsh Coast Trip. It was a damp, as in soaked to the bone on occasions, cold, shivering uncontrollably, unpleasant ride to meet the guys in Hereford on Friday evening, but ended up a brilliant weekend on some great roads.

Friday was an awful day to ride but on Saturday morning the sun was shining and the roads were dry. The route took us from Hereford towards Newtown on the superb A44 and epic A483 before heading west for the coast. We managed to miss every downpour and only saw the odd drying road during the morning and early afternoon, so the Monster could be properly put through its paces, well, by my standards anyway!

It’s brilliant, I love it! It’s a long bike but not actually that big and once you are sat on it and feels almost Street Triple like in size. And that power plant, it throws you at the scenery, propels you onwards, bringing the biggest smile to your face, it’s just huge amounts of fun! The throttle is easily controlled, even when in Sport mode and on wet roads it doesn’t overwhelm or intimidate anywhere near as much as 90 lb ft of torque could.

On the dry roads where ‘making progress’ was apt, the Monster encouraged confidence and allowed you to ride through corner after corner with spirit. After 600 miles over two and a half days I can honestly say this bike makes sense. The brakes are as you’d expect from a Ducati: exceptional; the handling a treat and the engine a joy. In difficult conditions, on single track hairpin roads, through fast corners, towns, the Ducati Monster 1200 did it all, and did it really well. Put a screen on and you have a machine that will take you on a two week European trip in comfort and then perform just as admirably on a track day when you return home!

This is a bike that will suit many shapes and sizes of riders, none too heavy, or too tall. It’s a great ride and another exceptional motorcycle from Ducati, we are really pleased to have it on the Spyder Club fleet.
