Spyder Club at BikeSafe Castle Combe and TVAM

Add comment April 23rd, 2013

Spyder Club had a busy weekend with Castle Combe BikeSafe on Saturday and the Thames Valley Advanced Motorists meet on Sunday.

Lizzi and six other members were booked in on the 10am BikeSafe assessment which consisted of two riders spending an hour on the local roads around Castle Combe riding with a advanced police motorcyclist who upon returning to the circuit gave feedback on their riding skills.  After a safety briefing there was 15 minutes of fun on track too – all in beautiful sunshine.  Hopefully the start to long, hot summer!

All in all Lizzi and the members thought it was an excellent day.  Great feedback was given by the police assessors on how to keep safe out on the roads and the time on track was just enough to whet the appetite and now everyone is keen to give Castle Combe another go!

Sunday saw an early start in Wokingham to catch up with the TVAM meet for tea and bacon sandwiches.  The BMW HP4 and HP2 were on display again and the sunshine resulted in an excellent turn out.

The day was ended with plenty of bike racing to watch on TV – not sure a weekend gets much better than that!

Spyder Club Road Review: the A87, Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland

Scotland offers the motorcyclist some of the most stunning scenery in the world and quiet, breathtaking roads on which to ride! In July we’ll be making our fourth journey north of the border and meeting several guests who’ll be returning for a third time. One of our most popular trips, Scotland really does offer everything.

Our trip takes us from Glasgow on day one, along the west coast, past Fort William and on to Invergarry where we always stop for a drink at the Invergarry Hotel which marks the start of the fantastic A87.

This has to be one of the all time great roads, 50 miles of sweeping tarmac through dramatic scenery that only Scotland can offer. We are very lucky to have been able to experience so many challenging roads throughout Europe; this is one that’s remembered by all!

It’s the perfect end to day one, that and a beer once off the bikes to discuss it! It’s so good we made it the start of the third and final day of the Spyder Club Scottish trip, it has to be experienced.

If you are planning a ride or drive to Scotland, be sure to put the A87 into the route. If you don’t smile the entire way, there’s something wrong with you!!!

Spyder Club Bike Review: the Moto Guzzi Griso SE

Add comment April 16th, 2013

It’s a bike not many members wanted to try and one I thought I regretted buying immediately, what a mistake! Having ridden the 1200 cc’d, 8 valve engine Griso for 40 minutes I’d made my mind up, not good, however as the 45th minute approach it was as if the whole bike changed. Suddenly there was a new element to this beautiful Italian motorcycle. With its matt green paintwork, brown seat and spoked black wheels it made me feel like Steve McQueen in the Great Escape!

Once run in, the engine continued to entertain. The surge of power over 5,000 rpm made for hilarious riding and the 230 kgs fell away as soon as you engaged the clutch in first gear. A bike of that weight shouldn’t handle that well! Whilst in Spain in 2010, myself and a member on a Street Triple R enjoyed one of the hidden gems of Andalucia, a 2nd, 3rd gear road of 50 kms and the Griso performed just as well as the light weight Triumph.

On the same trip another member lost sleep over the fact he was riding the Guzzi the following morning, only to wax lyrical within 25 miles of the villa.

A truly unique motorcycle that many Spyder Club members and trip guests thoroughly enjoyed! It’s a bike that’ll return to Spyder Club one day and one on my own wish list!!

Ride Your Dream Garage with Spyder Club

Add comment April 10th, 2013

The ultimate garage, it’s a bikers dream to own his or her perfect selection of motorcycles and be able to ride them in the perfect environment to enjoy them the most. The trouble is, with each year the dream fleet changes as manufacturers tease us with their latest developments, the shiny new designs and roaring engines.

Of course the older machines stay the same. I would always want a Laverda Jota and Bimota DB4 in the dream garage and a Moto Guzzi Griso SE would also be high on the list; but even then there are still so many other motorcycles I’d love to try whether I could afford them or not.

During the past 5 years at Spyder Club, we have owned just over 50 motorcycles and have had access to another 20, meaning members who’ve been with us since the start have experience over 70 different machines during that time. Our recent trip to Spain provided the perfect picture testimony to that. A year ago the photo below was taken whereas this year the picture above was snapped. Whilst we do have another Multistrada and Monster this year, brand new for the trip, everything else was different and still we have new bikes yet to arrive!

Spyder Club is a very simple, cost effective, time efficient way to enjoy many different motorcycles, continually updated, maintained, insured and delivered to members. It’s also a great place to meet likeminded motorcycle enthusiasts who want to improve their riding and do so because of their experiences with Spyder Club both riding the fleet through membership and on our European fly ride trips.

With the average member owning over 3 motorcycles and 95% of them owning at least one, you can see that they are genuine motorcycle enthusiasts, riding throughout the year and wanting to meet other members and trip guests who share their passion, riding great motorcycles!!

Heading to Prescott Bike Festival

Add comment April 5th, 2013

This Sunday we’ll be heading towards Cheltenham to experience, for the first time, the Prescott Bike Festival to ‘celebrate the diversity of two and three wheels’ whilst watching the entrants speed up the hill climb.

It promises to be a very good day with the weather finally being kind, if not a little cool!  Members who have attended previously have enjoyed a good family and biking experience. We are exhibiting in Paddock H so come and say hello!

If you’ve not already, start the season with a ride to the Prescott Bike Festival this Sunday, see you there!
