The BMW HP4, Ridden at Spyder Club

Add comment February 26th, 2013

It’s the most anticipated superbike of the year and it has arrived at Spyder Club in time to join us in Andalucia, southern Spain. It is still very much in it’s infancy with us, being run in and treated with the respect it deserves on British winter roads!

However it doesn’t take a motorcycling legend to establish the efficiency of this machine and the ability it possesses to cover ground very quickly. The engine pulls hard and whilst running it in limits you to 7,500 rpm, the straight line speed and acceleration is astonishing. With the limiter turned off triple figures will appear all too quickly, owners and Spyder Club members beware!

And the handling! The conditions haven’t enabled me to push the bike hard however even on the wet roads it feels planted, stable and predictable. The S1000RR Spyder Club owned in 2010 was an incredible bike through the twists, precise, smooth and efficient, you can guarantee the HP4 will put that same smile on your face but with the added character the RR needed, in my opinion!

I guess the next question is how will it perform on good roads and in good weather? We’ll find out next week in Spain at the same time as pitching it against the breathtaking Ducati 1199 Panigale for the ultimate superbike test of the year.

Fancy riding these two brilliant sports bikes along with a host of other desirable machines, join Spyder Club and you can!

Warm Motorcycle Clothes

Winter riding can be the most challenging, not necessarily due to the roads being in a worse condition but because after a while you find yourself thinking about how cold you are rather than concentrating on what you are doing!

A good base layer can help keep the chills out for longer but they are often very expensive. Decathlon have a solution!

I, along with many others I know, love Decathlon. It’s a shop with everything the outdoor enthusiast wants and much of it competitively priced. We have been wearing their bargain basement ski base layers for a month and a bit and have found them to be excellent!

These mens and womens tops and bottoms are £5 a piece making them exceptional value for your money. The fluffy inside adds to your satisfaction and comfort and worn under a mid layer and GoreTex gear make winter riding a far less uncomfortable experience for a lot less money. So far the quality far out guns it’s price tag and because they are so cheap, you can have a different colour for each bike!!!

Take a look, well worth the fiver in our opinion! Decathlon Base Layers

Norton Annual Black Tie Dinner

We were honoured to have been invited to the Annual Norton Black Tie Dinner at the Radisson Blu hotel near East Midlands airport on Saturday 9th February. A cracking evening with speeches from Stuart Garner, Ian Mackman and Dan Hegarty proving interesting listening.

A question and answer session with all three of the speakers was enlightening, hearing how riders and manufacturers prepare for the TT and the ups and downs of Norton Motorcycles over the last four years. Stuart was candid with his responses, going further than required throughout his time on the mic!

It was refreshing to listen to a CEO who understands mistakes have been made and that Norton has learnt from them. Norton have tackled an enormous challenge in one of the worst economic climates to revive an iconic British brand. The whole team deserve the backing of the entire motorcycling world as it is a better place with Norton motorcycles back in production.

Our own experience of Norton and the bike Spyder Club owns is hugely positive. There are many members who’ve ridden the club bike and are coming to our Norton factory tour on the 23rd February with Commando ownership in mind. We are proud to fly the Norton flag…

Is the Doctor back? Rossi is Going Well!

He’s climbed back on a Yamaha and in his first dry test has shown just why he is the GOAT! We all know he is a true racer and now he’s providing the doubters with evidence that age is not an issue as he’s a few tenths off the times of new kid on the block, Marc Marquez in the second session of the Sepang testing. He’s got to be on the top step of the podium this year and a real contender for the title!

Valentino must be a very happy man – after two years of running at the back of the MotoGP grid – to be back on his beloved Yamaha M1 and proving he really is the greatest of all time.

This is shaping up to be a superb season, with Marquez already showing his talent on the Honda and Cal proving yet again he can be within spitting distance on a satellite bike. Dare we say we’d love to see Pedrosa win the title though, he deserves one through his stunning career!
